The Murray River is also a spectacular part of this region. Australia's great river flows past precipitous sandstone cliffs, giant redgums, and vast wetlands. You can take a day trip on the Murray, or even better, have a longer break on water in a houseboat, travelling the same routes the paddle steamers did. There are other water-based activities too, including water skiing and canoeing, or you can just hike along the banks and marvel at the scenery.
