The Fleurieu Peninsula offers wine, food & wildlife in delightful abundance. There are 60 cellar door wineries from which to choose, many with restaurants, all offering the opportunity to taste some of Australia's best wines and regional cuisine. Quaint little roadside stalls sell fresh seasonal produce, just perfect for a picnic or to cook yourself. And the birdlife can be seen all over the vast stretches of water that are a feature of the region.
Little penguins nest on Granite 'Penguin' Island every evening of the year. Kangaroos bounce all over the hillsides in more than 20 national parks and in particular in Cox Scrub, Newland Head and Deep Creek. The Coorong National Park is renowned for its migratory waders and the Onkaparinga Estuary, Aldinga Scrub and areas around Mount Compass, Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island also get bird watchers twitching.
